Coldplay

Target Audience
Coldplay has a mixed audience of all ages and of both sexes, due to their combination of music which flows with a mixed vibe of music of a relaxed but yet upbeat tone meeting towards a variety of audiences. Coldplay has a large target audience of the ages from 14-48 the reason being this is that the band have created a consistent style of music for their songs as the music sticks to the same flow of style with the same use of instruments but with the different use of song lyrics. Making them appeal to a wider audience. Overtime Coldplay's target audience has changed from being quite a specific target audience for the ages of 30-40 year olds to now the target audience of 14-48 year olds showing a dramatic change over the years that the band has progressed making them become more known to the public eye. The band appeals to its audience in a variety of ways with their style of music which is a relaxed but upbeat tone and also with their lyric choice which most of their songs are based around a variety of different topics. For example 'Paradise' which is about a girl who the band is singing about with her eyes, and the way she looks. But it is the use of instruments which draw us in as an audience which in this case the song is quite upbeat but flows very well with the way that the main singer sings making it more ideal for the target audience. The band produces a positive approach with their consistant flow of style making them more seen to the public eye. With most bands there type of style of instruments and music changes making some songs appeal more to the public and some not so appealing. Which is why Coldplay sticks to the near enough same style of music making it known to the audience who has created the music.
Audience positioning
The audience are positioned within the lyrics of the songs that Coldplay has created in which the producer of the music wanted to intend. Most of Coldplay's songs relate to a majority of the publics social life this could be do with relationships, family, love etc. Or some of the songs that Coldplay produce break away from this to make the members of the public feel good, lightening up their days. When we look at Coldplay's music videos for example 'Paradise' we are placed as the audience as we watch the band perform to an empty room making us feel like they are performing to only one person making the target audience feel unique. Most of the music video's that the band produce are very different and confusing as they do not in any way link into the lyrics but yet it keeps us watching the video as we want to find out where they lead up to next i.e. a different place within the video.
Responses and user interaction
There are a variety of responses towards Coldplay. Starting off with their fans; when we browse through the internet searching about information on Coldplay we find a variety of fan sites which the audience have created about the band which hold character based files on each member of the band describing when they were born, and basic information about them. The audience get self actualization and personal identity from the music which Coldplay produce due to what the lyrics say and what they are promoting to the audience which in this case is love, relationships and social life. The audience can find themselves escaping from everyday life when listening to Coldplay as the music is relaxing and is something that the public can sit down and relax too.
Debates on relationship between audience/users and text.
The debates which are surrounding Coldplay is that the audience believe that their music should change instead of remaining consistently the same throughout each piece of their music that they have produced which is a positive thing as it keeps the band recognized towards the public but yet the same style of music can become boring. Other debates are that the audience would like to see other members of the band sing instead of the one main character as the main singer has a consistent flow of song which to the audience may become boring but I believe if they changed this then they may appeal to a larger audience if they perform as a group more in song.

Dizzee Rascal

Who is Dizzee Rascal's target audience?
I believe Dizzee Rascal to have a moderatly young target audience. The reason being this is that a majority of his songs are evolved around raps and his music is quite upbeat, which makes it more appealing to young teenagers and adults. From his chirpy lyrics and cheeky smile he continues to produce hit after hit with his first song Bonkers to now producing songs with other groups for example Florence and the Machine, 'You got the love'. Dressed in his own unique clothing, created by his own label, Dirtee Stank, which just goes to show that he is his own individual person and dresses how he wants too and not how others want him to be. His music is fun and quirky in which teenagers are looking for in the music industry today. With the way he dresses, performs and the music he releases goes to show that he wants his music to be aimed towards the younger target audience. Link 1
Has the audience changed over time?
Dizzee Rascal's audience has stayed the same over the past couple of years as he still only produces raps. But then when we look at the song he released with Florence and the machine 'You got the love' I believe that the song reached out to a whole different group of people of all ages as of the song reaching out to both young and the more older audience in which creates a bigger niche in the market for himBut with him producing music constantly for his younger audience makes him stand out more from other musicians as he only sets himself to a specific target audience which is young teens. But then on the odd occasion he produces music with other musicians which are based towards another audience which makes him even more popular throughout the music industry.
How does he appeal to different audiences?
He appeals differently to different ages for example when we look at the younger target audience which he is aiming for. They find his music funky, upbeat, and something to dance and sing along too. But as the age progresses some become offended by his music and even dislike his music as of it being so upbeat and different compared to other music for example Ed Sheeran's music which consists of a slow relaxed tone which many people of all ages like. But Dizzee is now starting to reach out to a wider variety of audiences by featuring in songs with other world wide known celebrities meaning that he will appeal to more by following their needs and to become more known to a wider audience throughout the world.

Is he a positive male role model?
No as when we look at his past we see that he was a bad teen. 'He used to be a rascal as he used to get involved with fights with teachers and used to steal cars and rob pizza delivery men' which shows that he is a negative role model towards the younger audience. But yet when we look at him now he still has that bad boy behaviour with the way he dresses with the hoodies but then when we look at him in the music industry he is a music phenomenom. When we look at his past life and his life now we see a huge change and see what a positive outcome has been brought to the music industry. Link 2
'Dizzee Rascal loves performing so much he can't contemplate ever giving up music' This quote just goes to show that if you keep to your dreams and focus on them hard enough then they will come true just like Dizzee's did.

How does he present himself to his audience?
Dizzee Rascal presents himself to his audience in a number of ways. Firstly starting off with his dress sense, Dizzee Rascal has his own label and own unique style which can be seen to the younger audience as stylish. But the more mature and older audience may disagree with his sense of dress style as it may be influencing the younger generation that hoddies are the right thing to wear, where as when we look at the younger generation today a majority of teenagers where hoodies and usually afraid members of the public as hoodies hide part of your identity away. When we look at Dizzee Rascal's songs they symbolise fun as the soundtrack within it is  upbeat and quirky symbolising that he wants his listeners and viewers to have fun like he is. Within his videos Dizzee dresses how he wants which is a positive view to the viewers as he doesn't overdress he keeps to a casual look.

How have audiences responded to Dizzee Rascal?

I believe the responses vary to Dizzee Rascal depending on the ages of the viewers/listeners for example the older audience may not like Dizzee Rascal's style of music due to most of the songs that he has created have been involved around rapping which people of the older age may not agree with. Whereas with the younger audiences of young teenagers a majority of teenagers enjoy his style of music as it is quirky upbeat a type of song they can dance along to at raves and parties in which a majority of teenagers attend. But many members of the public dislike Dizzee for example
"I dislike him. However without him UK hiphop would be nowhere, Dizzee & Wiley made Grime but Dizzee turned his back on Wiley and grime for mainstream money which I think is unacceptable. Dizzee did have his reasons, he got stabbed in Ayia Napa and Dizzee said that Wiley provoked it..long story but the bottom line is... I don't think Dizzee should get any recognition as he has turned out to be a smug pop-star who doesnt care about his fans.." Link 3
Production
There are a variety of people who write Dizzee Rascals songs whom are 'Dizzee, Calvin Harris and Nick Detnon' Most of Dizzee Rascals songs are written by himself with the help of Calvin Harris who wrote Holiday. Both singers combine their idea's to produce his songs. He was signed and records with XL whom he has been with since he first started his career. But he now records his own record lables with his Record name 'Dirtee Stank' in which has now undergone a signed multimillion dollar record and distribution deal. Dizzee has a number of managers starting off with his main label manager, Laurence Ezra and tour manager Paddy Stewart whom have been by Dizze since the beginning of his career and have made him the success of what he is like today.

Marketing and Distribution
Dizzee Rascals's music is publicised throughout the UK and America. He's main target audience is young teenagers as he believes that he can relate to them in what they are searching for in the music industry today. Which is why he has become such a sensation to the music industry today. Many methods are used to promote Dizzee Rascal's music one being his relationship with the public, as Dizzee is trying to reach out to the widest audience possible which is why he is now featuring in songs with other singers a prime example of this is Florence and the Machine. Dizzee Rascals estimated worth is £1000000 this is due to the fact that he is a consistant exstending celebrity.

Lady Gaga

Fashion icon or style setter? I believe Lady Gaga to be a shock value style setter with her bizarre use of outfits like the above. But does she wear these outfits to get the public talking about her? This type of stunt draws a very predictable reaction from animal right groups seeking to capalize on the media. In which of course is going to give her bad reactions and also cause a lot of aggravation towards the public. Many people believe her to be attention seeking due to her dress sense. Lady Gaga at times can be a negative representation towards the younger audience as in the media i.e. like magazines we see her with barely no clothes on i.e. in a bra and skirt in which can be seen to parents and the younger generation as appalling.

Many young teenage girls aspire to be like Lady Gaga and to know her ways with song and fashion. But is her fashion really appealing to the younger generation's eye? No. I believe that her fashion is negatively influencing younger people in the wrong direction to make them beleieve that it is the right thing to dress this way like the picture shown to the top left. But in other words she insipers the younger generation as she is showing them that they can dress however they like, which in some ways is a good thing as they can dress however they like, which in some ways is a good thing as they shouldn't hide their true identity.

A music industry revolutionary or Madonabe? Lady Gaga is a media industry revolution many say she's a Madonabe but in all honesty Lady Gaga look's, sounds and dresses nothing like Madonna. Yes she may dress strangely, but she is nothing like Madonna. Take for example her dress sense. Meat dresses, bra and skirt? We dont see Madonna dressed like this, do we? We need to face the facts that Lady Gaga is a music industry spectacular. She has a bizarre taste but everyone does, so what if her videos aren't appropriate that's just her style and that's how she wants to express herself.

The only thing that is similar about Lady Gaga and Madonna is there music. Many question who the original is in which of course is Madonna seeing as she has been in the music industry longer than Gaga? So how in what ways is Gaga copying Madonna? The only form of evidence in which I found was 'Born this way' in which the public decided that Lady Gaga had copied Madonna's 'Express Yourself'.
Music vs Fashion? When comparing Lady Gaga's music to her fashion. We see a whole different context or music and styles. Some of her dress sense is positive and the other is negative an example of this is her meat dress. This created much conflict towards the environment and many members of the public as they were distressted and appauled at her turning up in this and believed it to be attention seaking. But this is how she gets her publicity as this is how she wants to be seen upon the media. But then when we listen to her music or watch her videos we fall in love with the music as the lyrics and tune held within them is so uplifting and enjoyable to listen too. But then when we watch her videos we see her as weird and crazy as she creates films more than videos in which within the video is footage so obscure that we ask ourselves how does this relate to the lyrics etc.
Where is her music publicised? Lady Gaga's music has been publicized throughout the world. She is a worldwide known phenomenon. But how did she become like this? At a young age Gaga started off as a song writer for artists and groups such as Britney Spears and The Pussycat Dolls. At the age of 16 she then started singing in bars and clubs and was a great hit towards the public in these places. She then briefly signed a contract to Def Jam in which was a failure as no recordings came around. She then went onto Interscope as a song writer in which was for Britney Spears etc and began collaborating with Akon. Akon then sensed her talent and began promoting her career as a solo recording artist. In which is how and why she got to where she is today in which is a worldwide known phenomenon.

What methods are used to promote her? A variety of methods are used to promote Lady Gaga's music. Starting of with the following her dress sense. Lady Gaga dresses in her own way of how she wants to be seen to the public eye in which is unique. A prime example of Lady Gaga's dress sense is like the above or her 'meat dress' in which astounded many. But its stuff like this in which get the audience talking and paparazzi talking. Some bad and some good revolutions may occur but yet it still gets the audience talking about her and by doing this is making her more huger than she is already. When advertising her music advertisements occur in which show her videos for her music in which show the music in which she is promoting most of Lady Gaga's music videos are bizarre but that's why a majority of people adore her due to the madness in her videos. Most of Lady Gaga's videos symbolise fun and make us as an audience want to watch them over and over again. Publicitiy is the overall main way to how all celebrities are promoted as it shows the world who they are and what type of music they are producing.
How much has she sold? Due to Lady Gaga being known a sensation worlwide she has sold many tickets, albums and singles. Here are the following results in which I found that she has sold. She has sold about 75-80 million . 60 million Singles and 15 -20 million album worldwide. In which just goes to show the extent to which Lady Gaga has hit the world and how much her music is adored by the public with her upbeat music, wacky video's, and her mind blowing lyrics which are mind read by the public. Due to Lady Gaga being relatively new on the market she has made a big impact to the music society and just over a couple of years has now become known worldwide in which has taken some celebrities years upon years to become what she has become which is a world wide sensation with a bizzarre taste of style, fashion but yet thats what gets us as an audience talking about her, in which is how she got to where she is today.

What is her estimated worth? Lady Gaga's estimated worth is £110 million. This is due to the fact of how much she earns and due to her popularity throughout the world. She is an idol to many of all ages and sexes due to the fact that she is who she wants to be and dresses how she likes with not a care in the world, which is what a majority of the public like about her as she brings out a new dress sense everyday which shocks the world but yet still gets us talking about her. Her music video's also make her estimated worth as we see music video's only being a couple of minutes long but as of Lady Gaga being so different she turns her music video's into stories and sometimes even films, as of the duration of them and usually what's occurring within the video has nothing to do with what she is singing.
